Brazilian Indigenous Music by Marlui Miranda

Marlui Miranda embodies the sounds of Amazonian Indigenous sounds, showing an outstanding respect for the the communities she lived with, learning the indigenous languages well enough to sing the songs perfectly, according to the tradition. She started her journeys through the Amazon more than 30 years ago, a pioneer and a brave woman to adventure in the tropical forests. "Marlui also makes sure the Indians benefit financially from the recording. The tribes receive the money, because the music belongs mostly to their tradition and not to a specific person. The hard part is getting the money to them...no bank accounts, as you can imagine, and for the most part, no mail service. So, she has to wait until someone goes to wherever they are to bring them the money. And sometimes, they ask to be paid in pencils or books or any need they have." O trabalho de Marlui Miranda incorpora sons de várias nações indigenas brasileiras. Cantando com perfeição na língua indígena, Marlui é fiel à tradição vocal dos índios, embora esta guerreira/pioneira afirme que suas canções são interpretações artísticas, sem pretensões etnográficas. “Marlui faz questão de repassar parte do lucro de seus cds para as tribos, já que a autoria das canções pertence à comunidade. O difícil é fazer o dinheiro chegar até eles, sem contas bancárias, e na maioria, sem serviço postal. A tarefa fica por conta dos conhecidos que estarão de passagem pelas aldeias.
